Docents Graduate from the 2025 TRHP Academy

On April 17, 2025, the Thames River Heritage Park Academy (TRHP) concluded a 10-week program, graduating 25 new docents, all of whom have signed up to volunteer at heritage sites throughout the park. Participants included historians, artists, retires and currently working teachers and educators, healthcare professionals, engineers, non-profit group board members and volunteers, and those with an interest in learning more about our area and the work of the TRHP.

The class visited 20 sites, from art venues to historical home museums, to the performing arts, forts, and battle sites. They also heard related talks and lectures from different speakers on a weekly basis. Each person came away with an increased appreciation of what is available in the Groton and New London area and the scale of history throughout the region.

None of this could be made possible without the dedication from the park’s heritage sites and institutional partners. Countless volunteers, former docents and other collaborators came together in support of this program.

The Thames River Heritage Park Academy runs in the Spring of each year and accepts applications from local residents beginning in late December. Visit the website or subscribe to our e-newsletter in order to stay informed.

See you on the river!
