Since graduating from the 2024 Docent Academy, Bill Sternberg has become a steadfast and cherished presence throughout the Thames River Heritage Park—aboard our boats, at community events, and behind the scenes where our mission quietly takes shape.
Bill’s deep knowledge of military history and his passion for the Thames River flow through every tour he gives. His calm, kind, and steady demeanor has earned the respect and admiration of crew and passengers alike. His willingness to dedicate countless hours to guiding visitors has allowed the Park to expand its tour offerings dramatically during the 2025 season—growth made unmistakably clear by the increased ridership and revenue generated through tours departing from the Nautilus dock.
Bill’s nautical expertise extends far beyond the waterfront. His insight and professionalism played an essential role in developing the RFP for our next boat operator, helping to chart the future of the Park’s operations.
Recognizing the breadth of his contributions and the value of his leadership, Bill was recently invited to join the Thames River Heritage Park Foundation Board of Directors, effective January 2026, an honor that reflects both his impact and our immense appreciation.
Bill, congratulations on being named our 2025 Volunteer of the year!
