Come hear the story of the history of the New Bedford Fishing Industry, how scalloping developed from a summer fishery, and why it is now playing the leading role. Paul will present a time line of the development of the fishing industry in New England and its metamorphosis. Hear examples from the perspective of the fishermen of what went right, what went wrong, and why the fishermen did what they did. New Bedford is the #1 fishing port in the country in terms of dollar value landed, and currently the scallop harvest is responsible for about 85% of the total catch.
